Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he spun at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
