In the dying moments, sheer ecstasy broke out for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández stabbed home a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola howling at the heavens and handed the temporary Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch in class, making the recollection of Fernández's pivotal intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Glaring Contrast in Experience

On the home bench stood the most decorated manager of his time, a man with four decades of silverware for elite clubs Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, was a former coach at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and arrived to make his senior managerial bow after being seconded from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a host of absences, most notably Chelsea's important midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task began as a mission that seemed close-to-impossible.
