Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
